Kolby Joseph Drees (38), known for his good-hearted and fun personality, passed away on Sunday, September 22, 2024 in a tragic car accident in Bondurant, Iowa.
Kolby was born on January 29, 1986, to Kevin Drees and Lori (Loew) Russell in Des Moines, IA. After Kolby graduated from Norwalk High School in 2004, he went on to study Information Technology at DMACC. Kolby spent nearly 20 years working in his career where he made every effort to assist his co-workers with computer issues. He found true joy in making their jobs easier. His genuine passion to help others made his profession the perfect way to spread his kindness to everyone he met. Most recently, Kolby proudly worked for the City of Ankeny providing IT support for all departments, including police, fire & EMS.
Kolby was a passionate and enthusiastic person who enjoyed going to endless music concerts, playing darts and watching 80’s movies on repeat. In his younger years, he loved fireworks and putting on displays at his grandparents’ Iowa farm. He had infinite pride in the vehicles he owned, like his 4-wheeler, motorcycle and his beloved Grand Prix with its souped-up stereo and all that bass!
Kolby is survived by his mother Lori Russell (Mike), his father Kevin Drees (Tracey), his sister Kassidy Small (Matthew), her children Jaxson, Carter and Maddox, his brothers Kadin and Kolton Drees and his grand-parents Vernon and Phyllis Drees and Sally Russell. Kolby is preceded in death by his grandparents Dennis and Janice Loew.
Kolby passed away alongside his cherished companion, Sara Tourte. They will forever reside in our hearts and their legacy will undoubtedly continue to inspire us to lead generous, giving lives. Kolby’s organ donations will be a true testament of his giving heart.
