Konstantinos Panagopoulos, 86, Born in Meligala, Greece; Beloved husband of Paraskevi (nee Zorba) Panagopoulos; Devoted father of Andreas (Deanne), and Bessie (friend Ronald Holstein) Karegianes; Cherished grandfather of Kayla (Blake) Termini, Nicholas, Ashley, Jameson, and Dean; Dearest Uncle, Brother-in-law and friend to many. He was the former owner of Greg's Gyros in Dunning Square, Chicago.
It's hard to put into words the heartbreak and shock I'm feeling as I share the news that my dad, my rock, passed away yesterday afternoon. Everything happened so quickly. We recently discovered he had colon cancer that had spread to his liver and lungs. Just last Friday, the 13th, we met with his oncologist and were told he might have six months to a year. He was ready to fight, and we were preparing to start chemotherapy. For the past 14 years, my dad was my mom's full-time caregiver after her stroke left her unable to speak and with limited mobility on her right side. His strength, patience, and love were unmatched. My parents shared 57 wonderful years of marriage, and we recently celebrated his 86th birthday on September 11th. I can never fully express my gratitude for everything he's done for me, our family, my mom, and his grandchildren, whom he adored with all his heart. He found joy in working in his garden and spending time in the backyard, where he felt at peace. In his final hours, he struggled to breathe, his kidneys began to fail, and his lungs filled with fluid. Yet, even though the pain, he found the strength to tell us he was ready to let go. After receiving his last rites from Father Andreas at Saint Sophia's, he chose to remove the BiPAP mask and pass away peacefully. We will all miss you so much, Dad. But we take comfort knowing you're watching over us from above, surrounded by beautiful gardens until we meet again. We love you dearly.
Visitation, Saturday, Sept. 21, 2024 from 11:30 a.m. until time of Funeral service 12:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church 10050 Ivanhoe Street, Schiller Park, IL. 60126. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. Arrangements by NICHOLAS M. PISHOS FUNERAL DIRECTOR, LTD., (Hellenic Funeral Service). Info: 847-833-9522
