Kottunjalil Mathai

Kottunjalil Mathai, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and faithful Catholic, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was 80 years old.

Born on January 23, 1945, in Pullad, India, Kottunjalil was the son of the late Mathai John and Aleyamma John. His life was rooted in deep faith and enduring family bonds that remained constant from his early days in India to his later years in the United States.

On September 15, 1969, he married Mariam Mathai. Their loving union spanned more than five decades and was blessed with four children: Reji Mathai, Jiji Mathai, Sobha and Sam Varughese. Kottunjalil found great joy in his role as a grandfather to Juby, Chinnu, and Nigin.

He shared close ties with his siblings Mariamma Kunnath, John Chako, Aleyamma Jose, Annamma Johnson, and Achakunju John. He also held dear the memory of his late brother Chacko.

Kottunjalil's unwavering devotion to his Catholic faith was a guiding force throughout his life. He found peace and spiritual renewal in visiting churches-sacred places that nurtured his soul and strengthened his commitment to God. His faith was not only professed but lived daily through quiet acts of love and steadfast service.

A Funeral Mass will be held on January 22, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church, located at 7336 W Britton Rd, Oklahoma City.

Kottunjalil's gentle spirit and steadfast faith leave a lasting imprint on those who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace and may his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
