Kraig Wayne "Shorty" Spears

Kraig Wayne Spears, affectionately known by all as "Shorty," passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of music, laughter, and rhythm. Born on November 9, 1971, at Methodist Hospital in San Antonio, Texas, Shorty was the beloved son of Freddie and Linda Lee Spears.

A true Texan at heart, Shorty was raised in the close-knit community of Helotes, Texas, a place where he built a lifetime of cherished memories and formed deep, lasting friendships. He will be forever remembered for his infectious smile, his quick wit, and a sense of humor that could light up any room. Shorty also enjoyed fishing and spending time at the deer lease with family and friends.

Music was Shorty's heartbeat. A gifted drummer, he was revered by fellow local musicians as "the clock" for his impeccable timing and steady hand. Over the years, he lent his talent to many local bands, most recently performing with the Bryan Bros., alongside his dear friend from childhood, Kevin Bryan and Kevin's brother, Jon. When he wasn't behind the drum kit, he found great joy in listening to the original music of his big brother, Kenny.

A baseball fan, since his dad coached his little league team, Shorty's loyalty belonged to the Texas Rangers. He shared this passion with his mother-in-law, Patricia Thayn, who affectionately referred to her son-in-law as her "baseball buddy" cheering on his favorite team.

Shorty is survived by his devoted wife of over 20 years, Dione Michelle Spears, whom he married on September 18, 2004. He also leaves behind his parents, Freddie and Linda Lee Spears; his siblings, Kenny Spears (Stephanie), Keri Kent (Kenny), and his twin brother, Keith Spears (Gabriel). His memory will be carried on by his nieces and nephews-Kendyl Dennis (Nicholas), Devin He (Vincent), Kamryn Jehl (Austin), and Braeden Kent-as well as his great-nephews, Jude and Olsen Dennis and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents and several beloved uncles.

Shorty's rhythm may have stilled, but the music of his life will continue to play in the hearts of all who knew him.
