Rodney Edwards Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Castle Ridge Mortuary - North on Mar. 13, 2026.
Rodney Keith Edwards, known affectionately as Rod to all who knew him, departed this life on February 6, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas, after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. He was surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. Born on January 13, 1957, to his late parents Eurshel and Fay Edwards in Chandler, Arizona, Rod's life was a testament to the best qualities of being human: kindness, love, and curiosity.

Rod's journey through life was marked by a profound love for family, hard work, a passion for creative design, and a sense of humor that never faded. He shared a beautiful life with his wife, Dorothe, who was his partner in every sense of the word. A father who instilled laughter and excellence in his children, Joshua and Jessica. A grandpa whose playfulness and love for Julia and Maddison never wavered. To Acacia, a caring father-in-law, willing to lend an ear, laugh, and when needed, some advice.

Rod was preceded in death by his brother, Brad. He is survived by his brother, Greg and wife Betty, nephew Jerame and wife Courtney. Greg remembers his brother fondly for his encouraging and creative artistic abilities. Jerame remembers Rod as a foundation of support and encouragement and the jovial light of any room. Rod perfectly balanced being a strong support for others while also being loving and kind.

Educated at Texas Tech University, Rod's study of architecture fueled a career that was both illustrious and impactful. He specialized in cost estimating, designing universities and hospitals, and applying his skills to construction management. One of his earliest projects was the Orca stadium at Sea World San Antonio. His designs were not merely structures but were his legacy left on this earth to educate, to help students reach their career aspirations, and provide patients the space to heal and recover. He had a passion for teaching and mentoring; his coworkers often thanked him for the skills he taught them. He loved his work and enjoyed the people he partnered with.

Rod's faith in God was his compass, guiding him through trials with grace and inspiring him to serve others with a heart full of compassion and love. His belief allowed him to face challenges with a smile, to seek knowledge with a voracious appetite, and to live with passion.

Rod's zest for life was evident in his wide array of interests. He found joy in the virtual worlds of video games, exploring narratives and challenges with his children and friends. Movies and music were his escape and inspiration, reflecting his youthful spirit and his appreciation for the arts. He loved animals and had many pets throughout his life. He was a historian at heart, with a deep fascination for the stories of the past that shape our present. He loved to travel and had many adventures throughout his life; including a trip to Bosnia in 2024. There was also Rod's love for ingenuity and speed as exhibited through his Cadillac Blackwing sports car which mirrored the way he lived his life – with passion, precision, and always with an eye for beauty.

Rod's legacy is not in the objects he left behind but in the lives he touched. His intelligence and charisma shone brightly in every conversation, his courage was evident in his life and battle against cancer, and his humor brought light to even the darkest of days. He taught us to pursue our passions with vigor, to work hard, to enjoy life, and to love without reservation. As we celebrate Rod's life, we are reminded that time is precious and that we should approach each day with the same enthusiasm and joy that he did. Live your life to your ultimate potential and enjoy it; take the vacation, buy the car, laugh often, talk to an old friend. We will miss him beyond measure, his absence is an unfillable void in our hearts, but the blueprint of his humor, love, and honor will guide us forevermore. His memory will continue on in us as a husband, dad, papa, brother, uncle, colleague, mentor, and friend.
