Garry Thomas Edwards, 73 of Danville, passed away on March 14, 2026 in his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on March 03, 1953 in Indianapolis to the late Frances E. (Larison) and Robert M. Edwards. Garry graduated from Danville High School in 1971. He married Donna Marie Costin ,his high school sweetheart, on May 25, 1974 at the Danville Christian Church.
Garry successfully completed training at the Law Enforcement Academy. He was an officer with the Danville Police Department for 27 years, retiring in 2012. Garry served as the Chief of Police for 10 years from 1996-2006. He was a member of the Danville American Legion Post #118, Fraternal Order of Eagles #1005 in Crawfordsville and the Danville Christian Church.
During his free time Garry was an avid outdoorsman. He was a hunter, enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, mowing yards, and loved having a good beer with his friends.
He was also a music lover where he played in the Southern Comfort band for several years and enjoyed spending his Wednesday nights for several years at church helping lead the worship band.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Donna Edwards of Danville; daughters, Heather N. Edwards-Phillips (Robert) of Avon, Cassandra M. Wheat (Jess) of Danville; 4 grandchildren, Tyler, Andrew, Cameron, and Summer; nephews and nieces, Ralph, Luke, Amy, Cindy, Kaiti, Matt, and Karissa. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Carl Robert Edwards and David Richard Edwards.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, March 21, 2026 in Baker Funeral Home, Danville, with burial to follow in Danville South Cemetery. Pastor Venessa Harmel will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the service time in the funeral home.
