Kristi Lynn Ahr (Kaeppel), 60, of Ashburn, Virginia, passed away at her home on October 10, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. Her life was filled with love, laughter, and compassion, and she will be remembered for the warmth she brought to everyone who knew her.
Kristi was born on January 23, 1965, to Richard and Ingebjorg Kaeppel. She was the eldest of three sisters brought up in a loving, close knit family. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Kaeppel, and her youngest sister, Tracy Romine. Kristi's loving spirit lives on through her devoted husband of 22 years, Joseph Ahr, and their cherished son, Max Ahr. She is also survived by her mother, Ingebjorg Kaeppel; her sister, Cindy Kaeppel (Tracy Smith II); her nephew, Richie Romine; her niece, Shelby Romine; her great-grandnephew, Hudson Romine; and many extended family members and friends who cherished her and will continue to celebrate her memory.
Kristi graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. She built a long and respected career as a senior mortgage underwriter with Radian, Freddie Mac, E Trade Financial and Pentagon Federal Credit Union. Kristi was known not only for her intelligence and work ethic, but also for her ability to connect with others on a personal level. Her compassion, integrity, and sense of humor made her a treasured colleague and friend.
A lifelong animal lover, Kristi had a special gift for caring for creatures in need. Over the years, she rescued and nurtured many animals, giving them the same unconditional love she shared with everyone in her life. Those who knew Kristi will remember her for her kind heart and unwavering compassion. Her generosity and sense of humor brightened every room, and she touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A funeral service to celebrate Kristi's life will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Saint Theresa's Catholic Church, 21371 St. Theresa Lane in Ashburn, Virginia.
