Kristi (Kjos) Prestegord, age 67, of Twin Valley, MN, went Home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 7th, 2024. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her family.
Kristi was born to Waldo and Darlene Kjos on June 15th, 1957. She was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal, MN. She attended Ulen-Hitterdal School and graduated in 1975. She then attended Moorhead State University.
On September 18th, 1976, she married Vernon Prestegord at Salem Lutheran Church. Vernon and Kristi lived in Lockhart, MN until moving to their farm in the fall of 1985. Their daughter Heather was born on March 28th, 1985, and their son JR on October 12th, 1989.
While she was able, Kristi enjoyed dancing, going on walks, and she was an excellent homemaker. She liked to help Vernon outside and never shied away from hard work. Kristi was diagnosed with MS in the early 1980s. Though the disease progressed over the years, she didn't let it stop her from doing things she loved like fishing, attending her children's activities, enjoying the outdoors, and playing cards and board games. She was an excellent player of Whist, Pinocle, and Settlers of Catan. She loved to play games and thoroughly enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Kristi was extremely thoughtful, caring, encouraging, and always kept a positive attitude. She was an inspiration!
Kristi worked as the bookkeeper for Holm Plumbing in Ada, MN until the early 1990's. While her children were toddlers, they got to go to work with Kristi instead of attending daycare. Kristi loved to read and play with her children- at work and at home.
While their kids were growing up, Vernon and Kristi attended Wild Rice Lutheran Church of Twin Valley, MN where Kristi enjoyed helping with the Sunday School Program. During the 2010s, Vernon and Kristi loved being active at the Cowboy Church of Twin Valley, MN.
Kristi delighted in spending time with her grandchildren – Mason, Bennett and Berkley. Her face lit up whenever she spent time with them or talked about them. She loved to play games with them, read to them, watch them play, and attend their activities.
The most important thing to Kristi was her Christian faith. She deeply desired for everyone to know Jesus and spend eternity in Heaven.
Kristi is survived by her husband, Vernon of Twin Valley, MN; her daughter Heather of Bismarck, ND; her son JR (Amanda) of Dilworth, MN; her grandchildren Mason Gysberg, Bennett Prestegord, and Berkley Prestegord; two brothers: Todd (Arlene) Kjos of Hitterdal, MN, and Mike (Jenny) Kjos of Hawley, MN; three sisters: Shirley (Ron) Gwin of Mapleton, ND, LuAnn (Ole) Larson of Lake Park, MN, and Lynnette (Ross) Wagner of Brainerd, MN; brothers-in-law Steve (Marilyn) Prestegord of Ada, MN, Edward (Denise) Prestegord of Glydon, MN; three sisters-in-laws: Dorothy (Larry) Vincent of Felton, MN, Melanie Kjos of Ulen, MN, and LouAnn Kjos of Ulen, MN; Step-father, Nordahl "Gordy" Arntson; and many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents Waldo and Darlene Kjos; and her brothers, Wayne Kjos and James Kjos; and many extended family members.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 10, 2024, at 2:00pm, with a visitation two hours prior, at the Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal, MN. Inurnment will be held at the Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Hitterdal.
