PERRY –
Surrounded by her family, Kristie Langston Hill passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 21, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 53 years old. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at Perry United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m., and the Funeral will begin at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Bobby Nix and Rev. Tom Carruth officiating. Interment will be in Perry Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to The Westfield School, 2005 U.S. Highway 41 South, Perry, GA 31069, or Byron Middle School, 201 Linda Drive, Byron, GA 31008, or American Cancer Society, 3380 Chastain Meadows Parkway NW, Kennesaw, GA 30303.
A lifetime resident of Houston County, Kristie was born in Warner Robins and lived in Perry most of her life. A 1988 graduate of The Westfield School, she continued her education at Georgia Southern College where she earned a Bachelor' Degree in Elementary Education and was a member of Chi Omega Fraternity. Her participation in the Chi-O Sorority enhanced her upbringing and moral foundation "to work earnestly, to speak kindly, to act sincerely, to choose thoughtfully that course which occasion and conscience demand; to be womanly always; to be discouraged never; in a word, to be loyal," as is quoted directly from their vision statement. These characteristics were with Kristie most every day in most all circumstances for the rest of her life, even through the hardest parts of her eighteen-month illness. She was a fine Christian woman and a true Southern belle, always living as an example to her children and those around her.
As a teacher, Kristie taught at Byron Elementary School and Byron Middle School for nearly twenty-five years combined until her health demanded an early retirement. An insurmountable number of students' lives were touched through the years by her diligence and tenacity to teach them proper English grammar and always present oneself as intelligent. After teaching for a few years, Kristie attended Georgia College where she earned a Master's Degree in Middle Grades Education. Later in her career, she earned a Specialist's Degree, still aiming high, claiming her own goals, and personifying a perpetual learner. In 2014, Kristie was chosen by her peers as Byron Middle School's Teacher of the Year, and subsequently was awarded the highest honor as Peach County's Teacher of the Year for 2014.
A sports enthusiast all of her life, Kristie was a staunch supporter of University of Alabama football and loved the Atlanta Braves and Dallas Cowboys. She enjoyed hosting friends and family on gameday Saturdays and attending games through the years when she could. Her greatest passion in life, though, was her family. When her children began participating in sports, she rarely missed a game or a match. As they grew older and began to drive themselves to events, Kristie was still right there with them. Her love for spending time with her family at the water's edge was often fulfilled with vacationing at Lake Oconee or the beach in Destin, Florida.
Formerly a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Perry, Kristie had been an active member of Perry United Methodist Church since 2017, where she was a member of the Redeemers Sunday School class. Kristie enjoyed being a member of the Tahseria Club of Perry, a women's service organization.
Kristie was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Sel "Hank" and Edna Everidge; her paternal grandparents, W.C. and Mary Lizzie Langston; her father, James "Stump" Langston; and her stepfather, Bill Schwanebeck.
Left to cherish the memories they made with Kristie are her loving and devoted husband of twenty-nine years, Bill Hill of Perry; her children, Chandler "Chill" Hill (Jamie Hickey) of Woodstock, Colby Hill of Perry, and Chloe Hill of Perry; her mother, Gale Schwanebeck of Warner Robins; her brother, Jim Langston (Debbie) of Marshallville; her nephew, Cal Langston, and her niece, Mandy Langston, both of Marshallville; her four-legged son, "Murphy;" and several other extended family members.
Condolences for the family may be left in the online guestbook at www.watsonhunt.com. Watson-Hunt Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
