Kristine Annette (Johnson) Boelter, 61 years old, was born on July 8, 1961, in Lincoln, Lancaster Co., Nebraska to Gale Franklin and Katherine Marie (Jelinek) Johnson. Kris passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at her home in Dwight, Nebraska.
Kris attended school in several places, from a one-room school called Hazeldale in Humbolt, Nebraska to Sterling Middle School, then graduating from Norris High School District 160 in 1981.
Kris worked at the Hy-Vee grocery store in her younger years where she was a much-valued employee. She then worked for several years at Walker mufflers in Seward. For the last 25 years she worked for and with Benes Service Co. in David City, Nebraska, where she was like a second mother or older sister to some of her coworkers. She was affectionally referred to as the Hub as she helped keep everything together and going. She was always ready with a smile for anyone coming in the door. Kris made friends wherever she went.
Kris was active in many groups. She was on the Genesis House Personal Development Board, Dwight Community Club, where she served as multiple officers in this club, and Butler County Crime Stoppers. Kris loved it when Curves was open and enjoyed time with the friends she made there. She also sewed with a group of friends. Kris joined the Blue Valley Quilt Guild in 2020, in Seward, and she served as President in 2021. Being president during covid was not an easy task, but Kris and her team of officers came up with new ideas to continue to enjoy the fellowship with quilting friends! Kris was loved by many of her friends at the quilt guild. As any member can tell you, purple was her favorite color. Kris enjoyed participating in the Shop Hop events organized by the quilt shops in Nebraska and Kansas. She also loved a road trip or girls trip, whether it be to Kansas City, Pawhuska, Oklahoma or Waco, Texas.
Her love of crafts, sewing and quilting talents led her to make and sell appliqued hand towels, Kleenex covers and many other items at area craft shows for many years. Kris' repeat customers were always excited to find a new design, fabric, or holiday creation. Kris was very generous and shared her work with many family members and friends. Many children in her circle received a handmade baby quilt from her. Her quilts will be treasured by many for years to come. While Kris wasn't blessed with children of her own, she had cats. Her cats were her children, and they were loved very much.
From her sometimes purple hair to her love of unicorns and love for Husker football, she lived a wonderful life. She was loved and will be missed by all of us for years to come.
Kris was united in marriage to Kevin Helmink in August of 1983, in Bennett, Nebraska and divorced in 2000. She was then remarried to Wade Boelter of Verdigre, Nebraska for 17 ½ years until her death. They were united in marriage on May 11, 2007. Wade and Kris lived in Dwight, Nebraska.
Kris was preceded in death by her father, Gale Johnson and sister-in-law, Lisa Johnson.
Survivors include her husband, Wade Boelter, Dwight; mother, Katherine (Jelinek) Johnson; brothers, Daniel (Rebecca) Johnson, Douglas Johnson, all of Hickman; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Teresa (Garry) Neilsen, Laurie (Clem) Wagner, Julie (Dale) Dvorak, Jean (John) Dather, Chris (Greg) Vakoc, Kevin Helming; her in-laws, Merle and Mary Boelter; nieces and nephews, Jennifer Johnson, Arizona, Stephanie (Daniel) Tachovsky, Nebraska City, Brian Johnson and friend, Stephanie Kerr, Lincoln, Nathan (Natalie) Johnson, Hickman; several great-nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
