Kristine Hutchens

Kristine Hutchens, born on July 15, 1971, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2025, at the age of 54. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and an unyielding thirst for knowledge.

Kristine was a devoted and caring individual, who dedicated her life to helping others through her work in the medical field. She held three degrees, including a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and served as a nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Moses Cone. Her expertise extended beyond nursing, as she was also an Intermediate Paramedic and skilled in Medical Coding.

Her family was the cornerstone of her life. Kristine was a loving mother to her two cherished sons, Christopher and Matthew, whom she adored and spoiled. Family gatherings and Sunday dinners at her parents' home were among her most treasured moments, particularly the festive celebrations of Christmas Eve with her entire family.

A passionate advocate for animals, Kristine was especially devoted to the welfare of cats. She was actively involved in cat rescue, fostering, and Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) efforts, ensuring that countless feline lives were touched by her generosity and love.

Kristine found great joy in the beauty of the outdoors. She delighted in decorating her front porch for every season, gardening, planting flowers, and feeding the birds and squirrels. Watching a thunderstorm roll through was among her simple pleasures.

A devoted member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Kristine's faith was an integral part of her life. She is preceded in death by her father, James Pendland. She is survived by her significant other, Eric Smith; her beloved sons, Christopher Hutchens and Matthew Hutchens; her mother, Peggy Pendland; her brother, Russell Pendland and his wife Sandy; her nephews, Justin Pendland and Josh Pendland along with Julie, their daughter Melvinny Jean; and her niece, Mekenzie Hundley and her husband Tyler.

Services to honor and celebrate Kristine's life will be held at Cornerstone Baptist Church, located at 2338 Hines Chapel Rd, Greensboro, NC 27405, at a later date.

Kristine will be deeply missed by all who knew her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
