Kristopher Jordan Obituary

Kristopher W. "Kris" Jordan, age 46 of Ostrander and State Representative of the 60th District, died unexpectedly, Saturday morning February 25, 2023, at home following a diabetic reaction.

A type one diabetic since the age of 18, he was born in Marion on February 10, 1977, to Ralph K. and Patricia A. (Laucher) Jordan. Influenced by his grandfather, he became interested in history and public service at the young age of 5. Kris graduated from Delaware Hayes High School in 1995, elected as Student Body President. While at Delaware Hayes, he participated in track and field, cross country, show choir, and was a Buckeye Boys State representative. He and several classmates started the Delaware County Teenage Republican Club. He was also active with the Delaware County 4-H program, serving several years as a camp counselor and Delaware County Junior Fair Board Member.

State Representative Kris Jordan was currently serving his third term in the Ohio House of Representatives 60th District, after serving two four-year terms in the Ohio Senate. He represents the 60th House District, which covers the western portion of Delaware County.

Always politically active and a champion of the over-taxed. If he wanted something, he went after it. He became known for his door-to-door campaigning and trademark khakis and a light blue long-sleeve shirt. Kris was a lifelong resident of Delaware County, and at age 25, was elected to his first term as Delaware County Commissioner. He served six years as commissioner before being elected to serve as a State Representative in 2008, representing the 2nd House District. Jordan distinguished himself early when he was elected to House leadership as Assistant Minority Whip — the first freshman in Ohio House history to do so. While serving in the Ohio Senate he was chairman of the Senate State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee.

Throughout his career, Representative Jordan proved himself to be a strong fiscal conservative. He consistently fought to reduce government spending and never voted for a tax increase. As a County Commissioner, he led the fight to reduce property taxes for five years in a row. He never took his decisions lightly, always researching all sides for history, accuracy, and guidance.

An avid Republican he was also a strong social conservative, having fought to protect the unborn in both the Ohio Senate and Ohio House. For his efforts, he was awarded the Watchdog of the Treasury award, twice, was named the Ohio Christian Alliance's Local Elected Official of the Year, received a 100% rating from the American Conservative Union, and was the 2012 Ohio Farm Managers Association's Legislator of the Year.

Representative Jordan was active on the ground floors of the Freedom Caucus movement. He was looking forward to attending the upcoming March event with his family on a combined spring break trip. Kris was looking forward to showing his children Washington D.C., and the causes of his political passions and historical perspective.

Representative Jordan received a Bachelor's degree in political science from The Ohio State University, and he was an active member of the National Rifle Association, Delaware County Right to Life, Delaware County Farm Bureau, the Delaware County Township Association, and the County Commissioner Association of Ohio.

Kris was an avid fan of OSU football, trap shooting, as well as collecting agriculture antiques. He also enjoyed a passion for animals and those he cared for on his small farm.

Humble and disciplined in all facets of his life, in fact to a fault, growing up he only missed two days of school. He was beyond dedicated to his family and children. Kris was frugal and thrifty, not only politically but personally as well.

Kris will be remembered for standing up for the common citizens of Delaware County, his people, and his voice. But most importantly, he will be remembered for his love of family, they were his world and where and when he was happiest.

Those left to cherish his memory include his young precious children: Macy, David, and Everly Jordan, parents Ralph and Patricia Jordan of Powell, older brother Kyle Jordan of North Carolina, mother of his children Melissa (Clements), extended family, fellow Representatives, numerous friends, and Delaware County constituents.

Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 2nd at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 101 Valleyside Dr. at W. William St., Delaware, Ohio 43015, where services celebrating the life of Representative Kristopher Jordan will be held 11 a.m. on Friday. Burial will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Ostrander.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Kristopher Jordan Children's Educational Fund, c/o Richwood Bank, 1512 W. Kris and I went to R.B. Hayes together. He and his family lived across the street on Hills-Miller Road. When I would get grounded from driving my car, I would ask Kris to pick me up and drive me to school, so I didn't have to ride the school bus. He would pick me up at the end of our driveway. We made a deal for $5.00 a week for the rides. I'll never forget his kindness. May God comfort his family and friends during this difficult time.
