Mr. Kyle N. Surber, 99, of Bushnell, Illinois died 11:10 p.m. Sunday, February 11,2024, at the Courtyard Estates of Bushnell.
He was born October 16, 1924, near Kirkwood, Illinois to Charles and Lillie Surber. He married Dorothy M. "Dot" Deatherage, August 29, 1942, in Missouri. She preceded him in death after almost 74 years of marriage on March 27, 2016.
Surviving are three sons, Stan (and Judy) Banta of Bellavista, Arkansas, Bob (and Sharon) Banta of Oquawka, and Terry Surber of East Peoria, Illinois, a daughter, Sherrilyn (and Cork) Dalton of rural Gilson, Illinois, nine grandchildren, Brett Banta, Kelly Arciniega, Robbie Banta, Debbie Pompe, Brad Dalton, Darrin Dalton, Jason Dalton, Kelly Kimmitt, and Melanie Price, and several great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Kyle grew up in the Kirkwood area and graduated from Kirkwood High School. He served in the United States Army during WWII and was stationed in Korea and the Philippines. He worked for Outboard Marine Corporation/ Gale Products Division until it's closure. He later worked for Dalton Lumber Company in St. Augustine, Illinois. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and enjoyed trap shooting. He was also a member of the American Legion in Abingdon.
As Kyle requested, cremation will be accorded. A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Avon Cemetery, Avon, Illinois. His grandson, Darrin Dalton will officiate. Military rites will be conducted by the Abingdon American Legion Honor Guard. Memorials may be made to the Abingdon Historical Society. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Service Abingdon Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
