L. Charlotte Ely, passed away peacefully on July 12, 2025, surrounded by family.

Born in Knoxville, Tennessee, Charlotte made her way to Lansing after getting married, where she lovingly raised her family. In the 1970s, she entered the workforce, beginning at Long's Convention Center and later joining the newly opened Sheraton Hotel, where she served for many years as Director of Catering. She took great pride in planning weddings, parties, and special events-bringing elegance, and joy to every occasion.

Charlotte retired in 1994 and moved to Troy to be closer to her family. In 2016, she made her home at Bellbrook Senior Living, where she continued to share her warmth and kindness with new friends and caregivers alike. Charlotte had a deep love for people, and her infectious laugh left a lasting impression on all who met her.

Beloved mother of Dr. Stephen Ely (Connie) and Linda Sezwick (Jim). Dear grandmother of Stephen Sezwick (Anna), Jimmy Sezwick (Ashley), Alexa Maziuk (David) and Andrew Ely; and great-grandmother of Sam, Sophie, Nash, Nelli and Jack. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Nell Evans, and her siblings, Sarah, Mary Nell, Carlyle, Kenneth, Richard and Buddy.
