L. Haymaker Obituary

L. Robert "Bob" Haymaker

January 18, 1939 - February 8, 2026

L. Robert "Bob" Haymaker, 87, passed away peacefully on February 8, 2026. Bob was born in Fincastle, VA, the son of Luther R. and Mary E. Haymaker. He attended Fincastle High School after which he continued his education at the University of Virginia graduating with a BA from the McIntire School of Commerce. While at UVA he was in ROTC and played Freshman basketball. Upon graduation he entered the military intelligence division of the Army for three years being honorably discharged as a Second Lieutenant. Once discharged from the military he started a 30 year distinguished career as a Special Agent with the FBI. Upon retirement he worked in the Security Division at Caesar's Casino, Seaview Golf and Country Club and in his spare time did background checks for the FBI. Bob will be sadly missed by his loving wife, best friend and soulmate, Bonnie; sons, Robert Jay (Lannae), Timothy; his loving grandchildren, Kylie (Paul), Courtney and Dominick; his great grandson, (Lil Paul) Reeve and his great grand puppy, Tate; his goddaughters, Jillian Sainsbury and Ella Madhok and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, friends and colleagues. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther R. and Mary E. Haymaker; his brother and sister-in-law, Wayne F. and Mary Haymaker; his brother and sister-in-law, Donald E. and Penny Haymaker; and his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and Ara Ayanian. Bob enjoyed coaching baseball and basketball for his young boys, refereeing basketball, bowling, playing and watching golf and was a devoted University of Virginia, Dodgers and Green Bay Packers sports fan. He enjoyed tending to one of the best yards on his street and spending time at the Margate beach, often followed by a beer at the Greenhouse. Bob will be remembered for his service, dedication and love for his family.

Funeral services will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, February 16th at Adams Perfect Funeral Home, Northfield, N.J. and again on Tuesday, February 17th at 10 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church, Linwood, N.J. with a service immediately following at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will be at Friends Cemetery directly across the street from the church. I send my deepest condolences to the Haymaker family. I grew up knowing and respecting all the original agents in the Atlantic City RA of which Bob was one of them. Looking at his picture I can hear him in his quiet southern voice calling me Jimmie. May our good lord welcome him to heaven, and I can see him and my father having a cold beer together again.

Dear Bonnie and family, I am sorry to hear of the passing of Bob, I met him later in life when he would conduct the background checks for the FBI. Bob was a first class gentleman and such a professional! I will keep you and your family in my prayers. Sincerely, Bill Cliver, retired ACPO.
