Obituary published on Legacy.com by Chambers Funeral Services - Matewan on Aug. 9, 2024.
Lacey Ferrell, 83 of Phelps, KY passed away August 7, 2024 in the comfort of his home. He was a Veteran of the United States Army, a retired electrician from Kentucky Carbon, a member of the Thomas DeVenny Masonic Lodge, and a lifelong member of the United Mine Workers' Association.
He was born July 27, 1941 as one of 11 siblings to the late Emmitt and Elsie Ferrell. He is also preceded in death by his daughter Donna, and his beloved mother and father-in-law Hansel and Lillian Lester (who never truly saw him as "in law"), and his precious dog Gabbi.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Monica Ferrell. His family never got tired of hearing the story of him seeing the girl in the purple dress who, during his time in Germany, wouldn't write to him first. He raised his three sons Lacey Kyle (Nancy) Ferrell of Phelps, Kentucky, David (Jennifer) Ferrell of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and Dr. LK Ferrell of Owensboro, Kentucky to always work hard ("If you don't work, you don't eat"), listen more than they speak ("If God wanted you to talk more, he'd have given you two mouths and one ear but he didn't"), and to be dependable. He loved his grandchildren. He was always ready to cut up with his granddaughter Ciara Ferrell of Knoxville, Tennessee. His grandson Braden Ferrell of Knoxville, Tennessee always knew Pa had a knife for him when he came home. Also left to honor his memory are a special sister, Shelva Jean Dotson of Phelps, KY, a host of nieces, nephews, a multitude of friends, and his three grandpuppies: Susie, Sandy, and Nyx who were always excited to see him.
Lacey enjoyed feeding the birds, squirrels and deer in his backyard, "piddling" in his shop (and would gladly sell you one of his windchimes for $50), and growing tomatoes, cucumbers and onions in his garden. His family will miss him dearly.
Obituary lovingly written by the family.
