LaHoma Dean Singleton, 77, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away on July 15, 2025, after a fierce battle with cancer.

LaHoma was born on September 3, 1947, to Roy E. Martin and Edith C. Martin in Eldon, Missouri. After graduating as valedictorian from Eldon High School in 1965, she studied music at Oklahoma Baptist University and later attended seminary, where she majored in Christian education.

After graduating, LaHoma obtained her first job as a medical secretary at Shawnee Medical Center. She then went on to serve as a missionary in the Caribbean Islands alongside her husband, Jonathan. Later, she worked for 14 years as the minister of music, administration, and education at First Southern Baptist Church of Chula Vista.

In 1967, she met Jonathan Singleton, and they married in September 1968, later having two children, Murah Lynne Singleton and Abanna Tinisha Cheshire.

After retiring to Shawnee, Oklahoma, in 2014, LaHoma kept herself as busy as possible. Disregarding the definition of "retired", she continued working at First Baptist Church of Shawnee, where she served as organist, children’s choir director, and administrative assistant. She later became the pianist for Temple Baptist Church. In her free time, LaHoma enjoyed antiquing with her friend, Connie, and granddaughter, Ashley. She would watch her favorite game show, Jeopardy, and usually guessed the correct answers before the contestants. She loved cooking, and she constantly rearranged her house. Despite her serious demeanor, she had a great sense of humor that shone through her warm smile and quick-witted comments. She enjoyed playing with her “baby cat” Zorro, playing the piano, singing in the church choir, and sharing her love of the Lord.

LaHoma was predeceased by her parents and nine siblings. She is survived by her husband, Jonathan; her daughters, Murrah and Abanna; and her grandchildren, Noah, Ashley, Emma, and Jonathan Paul.

LaHoma was an incredible woman who stood firm in her faith, cared deeply for others, loved unconditionally, and exemplified true strength. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
