Laird W. Ferguson, a longtime resident of Georgetown, Texas passed away on August 2, 2024. Larry (or Ferg) was born on October 9,1952 in Ankara, Turkey to Suzanne C. Ferguson and U.S.Army Sgt. William (Bill) C. Ferguson who was serving in the Joint American Military Mission for Aid to Turkey.
He spent time in Germany as a preschooler while his dad served there and then grew up in quarters at several military bases in the states until his family settled in San Antonio. While there, he enjoyed gatherings with his cousins, aunts and uncles.
His favorite place in San Antonio was the airport. He saved earnings from his paper route and bought himself flying lessons. He became a private pilot as a teenager and had a lifelong love of aviation. He graduated from Churchill High School in San Antonio in 1970 and worked at the Sears store across from North Star Mall for several years. He met his future wife, Susi, at Sears while working customer service when she worked in catalogue during summers.
He married Susan (Susi) L. Shriber in 1976 in her hometown of Richardson, Texas. They moved to Nederland, Texas and he received his Bachelor's of Business Administration in Marketing from Lamar University in 1978.
In 1979 the Fergusons relocated to the Austin area where he went to work for the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts. They moved to Georgetown, Texas in 1985 and he continued to work for the Comptroller's office as a systems analyst until his retirement in 2007.
He is survived by his wife, Susi; his daughter Becca McMillan, her husband Zeno McMillan and their daughter Rory McMillan; daughter Lauren Bedwell, her husband Jeff Bedwell and their son RT Bedwell and daughter Molly Bedwell; son Joshua Ferguson and his wife Sara Ferguson; and brother-in-law David Darnell. His father Bill Ferguson, mother Sue Ferguson and sister Bonnie Darnell preceded him in death.
Ferg was well known for his great love of flying, sense of humor and the occasional prank or two. He loved his family and let them know how much they meant to him. He will be greatly missed.
