Lalon R. Willoughby, 88, of Fayetteville, North Carolina went to be with her Lord and loved ones on Friday February 7,2025 at Vitality Living in Richmond, Va. Lalon was born and raised in Duplin County, NC. to the late Carolee and James Rooks. After graduating high school, she attended Business Accounting for two years in Atlanta, GA. She returned to Fayetteville where she made her home. Lalon retired from her accounting position with the Cumberland Co. Tax Department.
Lalon had a true love of music; she was the pianist for First Baptist Church in Fayetteville until moving to Holden Beach where she continued playing for her church. She also served as the Music Director for the First Baptist Church in Raeford, NC. Not only did she play the piano but also the organ and harp, as well as teaching private lessons and assisting the Glee Club director at a local high school. She was an inspiration to so many who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents Lalon was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Wilbur Willoughby, as well as two brothers, Sam and Belvin and a sister, Martha.
Lalon is survived by her sister Nancy Renaldie of Richmond, VA.; stepchildren Kaye, William (Lois) and Beth (Steven); She was grandmother to Eric, Ashley, Scott, Stephanie, Michael, Justin and Kendell; and 7 great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be held in the chapel of McNeill-Legacy Funeral Home on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Interment will be at Cumberland Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
