Lamont Gray

Lamont Clyde Gray passed January 21, 2024 surrounded by his family who loved him dearly. Monty, as he was called by close friends and family was born to the late James H. Gray and Inez H. Gray on July 6, 1959 in New Haven, CT.
Lamont had an entrepreneurial spirit. He formed many businesses over the years from catering to hot dog stands to clothing, setting an example of black empowerment in his community. Lamont loved to spend his time in Atlanta when he could, which is home to his eldest daughter, as well as a host of cousins, aunts and uncles. Monty loved his family. He was a family man, always emphasizing the importance of togetherness, forgiveness and fellowship. He was an encouraging, devoted father, a committed husband and a fierce friend. The sun has set for Monty but his light will forever shine in the city of New Haven and beyond through every heart he touched.
To cherish his memories and Legacy, Monty leaves wife ShumelYah Yasharel (formerly known as Pamela Suggs) of whom he loved very dearly. More than anything Monty loved his children, he leaves behind 4 daughters, LaShawn C. Gray, Bryanna L. Anderson, Ebony M. Miller, Tamara S. Gray and one son Lamont Gray Jr. He also leaves behind four grandchildren Trevon Petaway, Imani Fulton, Jeremiah Tillard, and Skyla Bolden, all of whom affectionately called him Big Daddy. He is also survived by loved ones Cheryl Miller and her son Kawon Miller who he helped raise from a young child.
Monty was predeceased by his sister Manette C. Gray and leaves behind siblings Bruce Tyson, Gisele G Gray and Eric Gray.
