Lance Thornhill Funk, 56, passed away peacefully in his home Friday, July 11, 2025, after a 5-year battle with early-onset alzheimers.

Born December 16, 1968, in Provo, Utah, Lance grew up in the Air Force and lived all around the world. He formed a close bond with his five siblings, and they remained his best friends throughout his life.

Lance attended college at Southern Utah University, where he met his wife, Sharley Larsen. They married on July 27, 1991, in St. George, Utah.

His greatest joy was being a husband to Sharley and a dad to his 3 children, Riley, Braxton, and Morgan. Whether it was getting ice cream, playing X-box, jumping on the trampoline, wrestling, four-wheeling, or going on vacation, Lance and his family loved every minute spent together.

Lance was outgoing, funny, charismatic, caring, and strong. He loved canyoneering, hiking, and spending time outdoors. He was a huge prankster and would always joke around and make people laugh. He was a great example of living life to the fullest.

Whether it was helping people move, serving in his church, mentoring the youth, or saving people from a car wreck, he was always willing to jump into action. He was a leader in every situation. Lance will be missed by all who knew him.

The family would like to thank Dixie Hospice for their care and support over the last 2 years. They went to great lengths to make sure Lance had the best medical care, even when it didn't make financial sense for them. Special thanks to Shauna Weiland and Dr. Joseph Woolley for their unmatched kindness and compassion.

Many thanks to Seasons Health and Rehab and the amazing staff that cared for Lance. Thank you to the countless family members, friends, and even strangers who have shown so much kindness, love, and support to our family.

Lance was preceded in death by his mom Loni (Bob), stepmom Mary Ann (Bob), sister Dana, brother Brad (Jenny), and son Caleb.

Survived by his wife, Sharley; Children, Riley, Braxton (Jessica), and Morgan (Sam); Grandchildren, Ava, Tatum, and Brooks. Also survived by his father Craig (Dorothy), his stepfather Bob, his siblings Cheryl (Ralph), Amber (Jason), and Clark (Lisa), along with his step-siblings and many nieces and nephews.
