It is with great sorrow and pain that the family of Lance D. Smith announce his passing, as the result of a motor vehicle accident on September 18, 2024.
Lance was born to parents Leamon W. Smith and Louise Tromblee Smith on December 8, 1966. He lived in Lewis, NY his entire life.
Until age 21, Lance attended the Special Education program at BOCES Mineville. He later attended Mountain Lake Services (MLS) day programs. After the passing of his parents, the family home was donated to Mountain Lake Services to honor Lance's wish to remain in the family home. Eventually, Lance decided to leave the family home and "spread his wings", primarily because he was tired of his older brother Leamon W. bossing him around and telling him what to do! Lance then moved to MLS 403 Wells Hill IRA. A heartfelt gratitude to MLS staff for the support and love shown to Lance over the years.
Lance was a happy and caring person, had a smile for everyone. Quiet by nature, he simply enjoyed life. His favorite activities included traveling, shopping (especially for scratch off lottery tickets and Mountain Dew), collecting anything elephant related, visiting casinos and zoos, watching Game Show Network and old sitcoms-especially the Golden Girls.
Lance was an honorary member of the Lewis Fire Department, where he enjoyed the annual Ox Roast and selling tickets.
Lance is survived by his sister and lifelong advocate Lanita S. Canavan (Daniel) of Lewis, NY; nephew Jonathan (Caitie) McCray of Allen, TX; nieces Jessica (Jesse) Pound of Queensbury, NY; Lynette McCray of Lewis, NY and Shannon Canavan of Lewis, NY. Lance was great uncle to: Matthew, Oliver, McKenna, Emma, Emelia and Connor. Lance always asked, "How are the grandkids?". Lance is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Lance was predeceased by his parents and his brother, his buddy, Leamon W. Smith.
Calling hours are at Heidrick Funeral Home located at 7521 Court Street, Elizabethtown, NY on September 25, 2024, from 9:30 am to 11:30 am, with a memorial service at noon, burial to follow in the Lewis Cemetery.
