Lance E Walter age 65 of Amboy died Friday Jan. 9, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born June 28, 1960 in Mendota the son of Clifford and Phyllis (Bierwirth) Walter. Lance was a 1978 graduate of Amboy High School. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life Rebecca Whitney on June 25, 1983 in Dixon. Lance retired from the Lee County Highway Department in 2023 after 35 years but the job he loved was farming. He was a member of Pheasants Forever for 36 years and served on the Lee Center Township Board and the Board of Directors of the Sublette Farmers Elevator. Lance coached youth sports, loved watching his children and grandchildren's sporting events, and playing with his grandkids and his lab Maggie in the shop. He loved being outdoors, watching old western movies, playing cards, and going to town for some ice cream.
He was preceded in death by his father and in-laws Roy and Phyllis Whitney.
Lance is survived by his wife Becky, children Matt (Amanda) Walter of Amboy, Jessica (Ben) Kearse of Sterling, was "Papa" to 5 grandchildren Everett, Charlotte and Emmett Walter, Harper and Emma Kearse, his mother Phyllis Walter of Mendota, siblings Craig (Laurie) Walter of Amboy, Scott (Rose) Walter of Tennessee, Aaron (Jeanette) Walter of Dixon and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be on Friday January 16, 2026 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the United First Church in Amboy. Funeral Services will be Saturday January 17, 2026 at 10:00 AM at the United First Church. Burial will follow at Woodside Cemetery in Lee Center. A memorial has been established to benefit the youth of Pheasants Forever.
