Lanna Crowson Obituary

LANNA PEARL CROWSON

October 4, 1946 – December 26, 2025

Lanna P. Crowson, 78, of Bakersfield, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025. Lanna was born on October 4, 1946, to Gene and Ilene Smith in Lincoln, Nebraska. After Lanna graduated from Bakersfield High School in 1964, she went on to study cosmetology at Federico's Beauty College.

After graduating from beauty college, she embarked on a remarkable 55 year career in cosmetology. In 1964, fate brought Lanna together with the love of her life, Glenn D. Crowson, at Federico's Beauty College, where he was one of her instructors. Later that year, Glenn proposed with nothing more than a simple cigar band, a gesture that spoke more to their devotion than any ring could. They were married in 1965 and built a life rooted in partnership, hard work, and joy.

In 1969, Glenn & Lanna, along with dear friends Ron & Shirley Ely, opened the Stair Way to Beauty Salon. Over the years, the salon became more than a business – it became a second home, filled with laughter, stories, and lifelong friendships. They remain profoundly grateful for the unwavering support and loyalty of the customers who walked through their doors and became part of their family.

Lanna was a kind and thoughtful soul and will be missed and remembered by the many lives she touched. Her hobbies included golfing, crafting, bridge, and dancing. She was always busy.

Lanna was preceded in death by her husband Glenn Crowson, parents Gene & Ilene Smith, her in-laws Jack & Geneva Crowson, brother-in-law MSG (Ret.) Jackie Wade Crowson, sister-in-law Betty Fowler and grandnephew Blake Williams.

Lanna will be deeply missed and is survived by; brother Bob Smith (Rita); sister Linda Blackwell and sister-in-law Mary Crowson; niece Janie Williams (Charlie); nephew Jack Wade Crowson (Tammy); cousins Lori Netherton, Connie (Randy) Riggs; Terry (Wanda) Netherton; nephews Richard Helton (Tami) and Kevin Smith (Jennifer); and numerous other cousins, nieces and nephews. Her memory will be cherished by the Crowson and Smith families.

A funeral service for Lanna will be held Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 12:00 PM at Parkside Church (2515 Church Ave, Bakersfield, CA 93306). Graveside service will immediately follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park (9101 Kern Canyon Road, Bakersfield, CA 93306).

I had known Lanna since she married Glenn. Glenn and I had been friends since grade school and had remained close all though the years. When he married Lanna that friendship continued through the years and later I worked for both of them at their salon, Stairway to Beauty. Lanna was as beautiful as Glenn was funny. They were a wonderful couple that touched many lives through their business. Lanna you will be dearly missed.

It has been so many years since I crossed paths with Lanna and Glenn. I do remember how nice they were and they were known for strong work ethics, treated others kindly and they were fun. That seems like a life that was worth knowing and how lucky were their family and friends to have shared their life with them.
