Lanny Dwayne Brown passed away on May 2, 2024 at the age of 76 in his Amarillo, TX home. Lanny was born on April 7, 1948 in Hobbs, NM. He was a proud Eagle Scout, an honor he shared with his son, Jeremy, and a 1966 graduate from Andrews High School (Andrews, TX).
Lanny began his career in restaurant management at Pizza Hut in Odessa, TX. After a career change to the oilfield and the birth of two sons, Lanny and his family moved to Moore, OK where they welcomed a daughter. The oilfield later took them to Guymon, OK, and Abilene, TX. While living in Abilene, Lanny and his family were active members of Southwest Park Christian Church. When the oil industry changed in the 1980s, Lanny worked for IBM and sold real estate before taking Purofirst to the East Texas market and rebranding it to Hi-Tech Fire & Water Restoration. He was proud to work for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on the Beto (Palestine) and Montford (Lubbock) Units until he retired August 31, 2014.
Lanny was predeceased by his father, Jimmy L. Brown (January 29, 2000) and mother, Ethel “Nell” (Turner) Brown (June 18, 2014), his grandparents, brother-in-law Juan Martinez, great-nephew, Taylor Brown, and other beloved family. He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Cletus Greene, who was by his side when he passed, along with his children Lanny Dwayne “L.D.” Brown, II; Jeremy L. Brown, M.D., his wife Beth, and their children Eleanor Scout and Josiah Luke; Kristina K. Brown, and her daughters Victoria Rose and Alyxandria Kay. He is also survived by his friend and the mother of his children, Frances Cooper Brown, brother Tom (Suzy) Brown, sister Susan Martinez, along with nieces, nephews and other extended family. Others who survived Lanny include Roy (Reba) Greene, Alexis Greene and son Rollin, Adriana Goldberg and Kyla Jane Goldberg. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the caregivers of High Plains Senior Care Hospice, Electra, Monica and Maria, who provided care to Lanny the last few weeks of his life.
Lanny exemplified dedication to hard work, which he instilled in his children. Memorial donations can be made in his honor to the non-profits they dedicate their time and hard work: L.D. volunteers for Meals on Wheels, Jeremy is the Medical Director & Executive Director for Hospice of Lubbock, and Kristina is the Executive Director for Saint Francis Ministries Residential-Texas.
