Larisa Chernomaz, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, cousin, and friend, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in Brooklyn. She was 81 years old.
Larisa shared a deep and enduring marriage with her beloved husband, Emmanuel Malyarovich, who predeceased her. Their partnership was marked by unwavering loyalty, strength, and devotion. Even after his passing, Larisa remained steadfast in honoring his memory, carrying forward the love and commitment that defined their life together.
She was a loving mother to Yevgeny Malyarovich and his spouse Yulia Fleyshman, and to Alexander Malyarovich and his spouse Marie-Ange Malyarovich. She was a cherished grandmother to Nicole Lieber, Emmanuel Malyarovich, Joseph-Pierre Malyarovich, Oliver Malyarovich, and Talia Malyarovich, and a proud great-grandmother to James Lieber and Charlotte Lieber. She was a devoted sister to Irina Stanik with whom she shared an extraordinary lifelong bond. For much of her life, her cousin and dear friend Mark Chernomaz was by her side. Their bond was one of deep friendship and companionship. He remained a steady and devoted presence in her life until her final days.
Born in April 1944 in Tashkent, Larisa lived a life defined by resilience, intelligence, and deep devotion to her family and her profession. In Uzbekistan, she built an accomplished career as an obstetrician-gynecologist and served as a respected professor of gynecology, dedicating her work to the care and wellbeing of countless women and families.
In 1989, Larisa immigrated to the United States, beginning a new chapter with the same determination and strength that defined her life. She retrained in sonography and continued working in the medical field until her retirement, always guided by the compassion and commitment that had shaped her career from the very beginning.
Larisa had a remarkable presence. When she spoke with you, she was fully present-listening intently, engaging deeply, and making each person feel heard and valued. Her warmth, wisdom, and sharp wit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures: puzzling, celebrating holidays and traditions with family, and traveling-especially cruising to new places. She loved sharing stories from her travels with her grandchildren, delighting in bringing the wider world into their lives.
Above all, Larisa's family was the center of her life. The love, strength, and wisdom she shared will continue to guide the generations that follow her.
