James Larry Baldwin age 70 of Samaria, Michigan passed away peacefully on Friday April 28, 2023, at ProMedica Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Monroe, Michigan. Larry, better known as "Poppa", "Shredder", "Larry Ball", was born on June 28, 1952, to Archie and Anna (Treadway) Baldwin in Middlesboro, Kentucky.
Larry went to Mason Consolidated Schools and married Sally Schultz on October 31, 1970. From this union came three children, James Larry II, Brook and Becky Baldwin. In 2017 Larry reconnected with Linda Taulker, and they were married on December 8, 2017.
Larry worked from 1969 to 1976 at Huron Valley Steel running the auto shredder. He then worked at Libbey Glass in Toledo, Ohio as a machine repairman until his retirement in 2001.
Larry loved all and any music. He was born with a natural talent for music and could play many instruments, his favorite was the Gibson SG guitar. He loved to teach others and inspired many to pick up the guitar. Larry's greatest love was his family, children, grandchildren, siblings, nephews, and nieces. He kept a good eye on all of us and called us all every day.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Anna Baldwin, Son James Larry Baldwin II, Brother Garry Baldwin, Brothers- in-law Calvin St Bernard, Gary Worley and Nephews Aaron Bunch and Justin Worley.
Larry is survived by his loving Wife Linda Baldwin, Daughters Brook (Matt) Vyse, Becky (Brian) Nagy. Grandchildren Aaron, Brittany, Trevor, Brianne, Brianna, and Christopher. Great-Grandchildren Fayelynn, Karter, Annabelle, and Markie Leigh. Sisters Aleene Bunch, Gwen St Bernard, Annette Worley and Sister-in-law Sandy Baldwin. Larry was very loved and will be missed by many.
Friends may gather from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Friday; May 5, 2023, at Merkle Funeral Service, South Monroe; 14567 South Dixie Highway, Monroe, Michigan 48161 (734) 241-7070. A Celebration of His life will be held at 7:00pm also at Merkle's with Pastor Roy Southerland officiating. Cremation will take place through the on-site crematory, Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan.
