Joseph Lee Toeppe, 45, of
Monroe, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 11, 2025, while doing something he truly loved-working out and staying active. Joe lived life with passion and purpose, and even in his final moments, he was pushing himself to be his best. Born on October 24, 1979, in Monroe, he was one of six children lovingly raised by Donald Toeppe Jr. and Sharon (Jenkins) Toeppe. From the very beginning, Joe's energy, determination, and big heart set him apart.
Joe's early education began with home schooling by his Mom, before he attended Zion Lutheran School, Monroe Middle School, and Monroe High School. His life was marked by deep devotion to family, strong friendships, and a tireless work ethic.
Joe was a devoted and proud father to four incredible children. From previous relationships, he was blessed with two sons, Trevor Lee Toeppe and Cole Anthony Toeppe, who brought him immense pride and joy. For the past 13 and a half years, Joe shared a loving bond with Marie DeCapo. Together, they built more than just a home-they created a life filled with laughter, love, and countless cherished memories. Life got even better with the arrival of their daughters, Makayla June and Makenzie May Toeppe, who completed their family and filled Joe's world with light, laughter, and unconditional love.
In 2009, Joe began working for Ford Motor Company at the Saline location and while there, he met Marie. In 2012, Joe transferred to the Flat Rock facility, where he quickly earned the respect of his peers. He served as a Team Leader, a member of the Emergency Response Team (ERT), and was elected as a backup United Auto Workers (UAW) Union representative. Joe's competitive spirit shone through in everything he did, including his recent participation with his plant's ERT team in an inter-company ERT competition.
Joe and Marie transformed their backyard into a personal oasis-a place where friends and family gathered often. Known for his vibrant personality, Joe was the life of every party. He had a gift for making people feel included, never judged, and always supported. He was a devoted Detroit Lions season ticket holder, an enthusiastic camper, and a fan of group trips and house parties. Joe loved to "try" golfing with his friends and family. He just began taking lessons for an upcoming trip.
Despite his larger-than-life presence, Joe had a tender heart-especially when it came to his children and Mom. He was their biggest cheerleader, attending games, dances, and every milestone. Joe has always found peace and competition at the gym, never allowing another to out perform him. From regular weightlifting to competing in CrossFit competitions, nothing was off limits!
Joe's passing leaves a profound void.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lorin Elizabeth Toeppe and infant Kelliegh Elizabeth Toeppe, his maternal grandfather, Norbert Jenkins, and his paternal grandparents, Donald Toeppe Sr. and Norma (Vallance) Toeppe.
Joe is survived by his four beloved children: Trevor Lee Toeppe of Rossford, Ohio; Cole Anthony Toeppe, Makayla June Toeppe, and Makenzie May Toeppe, all of Monroe; his cherished grandson, Leeland; and his wife, Marie DeCapo. He also leaves behind his parents, Donald and Sharon Toeppe Jr. of Greenville, South Carolina; his maternal grandmother, Margaret Jenkins of Monroe; and siblings: David Stephen (Jennifer) Toeppe of Ida, Luke Nathaniel (Charisse) Toeppe of Greenville, South Carolina, and Leigh Elizabeth (Dr. Nathan) Tipper of Greenville, South Carolina. He will be deeply missed by Marie's parents, Paul and Diane Tokarz, as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and a wide circle of friends who made up Joe's extended family. Joe was "Uncle Joe" not only to his nieces and nephews but to the children of his many close friends, including Matt and Melanie Yavorsky, Jared and Janelle Reece, Jason and Leanda Drouillard and so many more (the list is truly endless).
