With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Larry Wayne Barnes, who left this world on Saturday, January 31, 2026, at the age of 52 in
Florence, Colorado.
Born on October 8, 1973, in
Florence, Colorado, Larry lived a life guided by craftsmanship, patience, and a deep love for the outdoors. Some of his best memories were made standing knee-deep in a river, tracking wild game through the woods, or working late into the night with tools spread across the bench.
A gifted mechanic and problem-solver, Larry had a rare ability to understand how things worked-and how to make them work better. He could bring engines back to life, repair firearms with steady precision, and tie fishing flies that were as beautiful as they were effective. His hands carried knowledge earned through years of practice, and he shared that knowledge freely.
At the center of Larry's life was his marriage to Carolynn, his partner, confidant, and greatest blessing. They were married on August 5, 1995, and recently celebrated their 30-year anniversary. Their life together was built not on grand gestures, but on loyalty, shared laughter, and the steady presence of two people who chose each other every day. He showed his love in the ways he knew best-by providing, protecting, fixing what needed repair, and standing firmly beside those he loved.
Nothing, however, brought him greater pride than being a father to his son, Ryan. Whether teaching him to cast a line, work with tools, respect firearms, or simply appreciate the outdoors, Larry passed on more than skills-he passed on patience, integrity, and a deep respect for doing things the right way. Larry recently became a grandfather to his grandson, Rowan, who quickly stole his heart.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolynn, his son, Ryan (Evelyn) Barnes, grandson, Rowan, parents George and Kathy Barnes, in-laws Carl and Sharon Leep, brother Josh (Ashley) Barnes, sisters Misty Barnes, and Sunny (Chris) Bryant, sister in-law Kim Leep, brother in-law Bill Leep, numerous nephews and nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Larry is proceeded in death by his grandparents, Marvin and Jeanette Hinton, who played a critical part in Larry's life and were there to welcome him into the gates of heaven. He is also proceeded in death by his grandparents Charles Kirby, and Oney and Stella Barnes, along with numerous uncles, aunts, and family members.
A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Solid Rock Christian Fellowship, 4501 Bear Paw Drive,
Florence, CO 81226 with a reception immediately following.
