Larry Dennis "Bert" Bertelson

Larry Dennis Bertelson passed away peacefully aftera a brief illness, at the VA in La Jolla, CA on February 7, 2026. He was 74 years old. Larry was born September 3, 1951 in Baldwin, Wisconsin to Laverne and Alice Bertelson.

Larry graduated from Baldwin-Woodville High School and enlisted in the United States Navy. He proudly served for 24 years, retiring with the rank of Aviation Tech Chief (ATC). In his later years Larry was active in in the VFW Post#3873 in Ramona, CA; the Fleet Reserve Association in Poway, CA and the American Legion. He enjoyed backyard barbecues, and took pride in his beautiful garden, flowers and fruit trees. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors.

Survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Wrene May Bertelson of Ramona, CA; daughter Tara Redic of Fallbrook, CA; sister and brother-in-law Karen & James Westby of New London, WI; and grandchildren Aliyah, Nathan, Darren and Jayden.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 from 10:30am to 12:30pm at Poway-Bernardo Mortuary followed by a committal service with full military honors at 2:15pm at Miramar National Cemetery. Following the cemetery service, please join us for a reception to celebrate Bert's life at the Fleet Reserve Association, 14231 Garden Road Ste#9, Poway, CA 92064.
