Larry E. Brasel, 78, of Perham MN, died Sunday, January 19, 2025 in Perham. Larry was born in Perham on July 29, 1946 to Walter and Elva (Huwe) Brasel. Larry was one of twelve children and grew up on a dairy farm in Corliss Township. In July of 1972, he was united in marriage to Linda Hemmelgarn and spent the next 52 years together. Larry owned and operated Brasel Hauling garbage route. After he sold the business, Larry planned to take some time to do some winter fishing and enjoy life a little bit, but took a temp job for the City of Perham that was supposed to last two weeks; he spent the next 26 years there until he retired. In 1991, Larry and Linda bought a hobby farm in Edna township that was his pride and joy. Larry was proud of the manicured lawn, a weed-free garden, along with a few cows that were his pets. Larry will be remembered for being able to create, build, or fix about anything with a stick of metal and his welder. After retirement Larry discovered auctions and rarely missed one. He was sure to come home with a pickup load of junk.
Larry is survived by his wife Linda; his son Justin; step-grandchildren DJ (Erika) Altstadt and Taylor (Ashley) Altstadt; his siblings Melvin Brasel, Doris Jaakola, Viola Lako, Arlo (Sandy) Brasel, Eldon (Carol) Brasel, Noreen Selander, Connie (Chuck) Bortle, and Donna (Walter) Seifert; sisters-in-law Shirley Brasel, Bonnie (Ken) Kroetsch, and Cindy Hemmelgarn; brother-in-law Robert (Paula) Mickelson; and a whole slew of nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law Lorraine Hemmelgarn; father-in-law Ervin Hemmelgarn; brothers Leroy Brasel, Donald Brasel, and Gerald Brasel; brothers-in-law Wayne Lako, Alden Selander, and Glenn Jaakola; sisters-in-law Brenda Mickelson, Connie Brasel, Carole Brasel, and Joyce Brasel.
