Louise Katherine (Rodriguez) Brasel April 18, 1943 – July 27, 2025
Louise Katherine Brasel, age 82, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, at home in Hanford, surrounded by the love of her family. A lifelong resident of Hanford, Louise's vibrant spirit and unwavering devotion to her family and community left an indelible mark on all who knew her. A graduate of Laton High School, Louise dedicated over three decades of her life as a bilingual aide, helping bridge communication and cultural gaps for countless students and families. Her professional journey also included work as a hairdresser and interior decorator-roles that reflected her creativity and eye for beauty. Louise was deeply rooted in her faith as a devout member of the Catholic Church. She actively participated in Marriage Encounter, Cursillo and grief counseling ministries, offering comfort and guidance to others during their most vulnerable times. Her leadership extended in civic life as well; she was proudly one of the founding members of the Council of Mexican American Women, advocating for empowerment and representation within her community. Family was at the heart of everything Louise did. She was married to Verne Brasel for 49 years until his passing, later sharing 1 year of marriage with Richard Findley until his passing. She was the proud Mother of three sons: Brian Brasel (Pam), Buddy Brasel, and Patrick Brasel (Dina). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, to whom she was affectionately known as "Gummie", a name that became synonymous with warmth, generosity, and joy: Breanna Rego (James), Nick Brasel (Katherine), Nick Sumaya (Cynthia), Garrett Brasel, Monique Huerta (David), Jacob Brasel, Julian Escamilla and twelve great-grandchildren. Though she experienced the sorrow of losing her grandson Buddy Brasel, sister Lydia Brewer, brother Richard Rodriguez, and parents Manuel and Josephine Rodriguez, Louise remained a pillar of strength for those around her. As the second of ten siblings, Louise cherished the bonds of family deeply. Her home was a haven for celebration-especially on Christmas Eve when she hosted legendary gatherings where every guest received a gift from Santa Claus, even strangers who happened to join in. Louise is survived by her siblings: Manny Rodriguez (Kim), Leonard Rodriguez (Esther), Fred Rodriguez, Johnny Rodriguez (Sandie), Pat Turner, Grace Karst (Dennis), and James Rodriguez
Louise had many passions that brought color to her life. She loved watercolor painting and interior decorating- expressions of her artistic soul. Her beautiful singing voice often filled rooms with music, especially when paired with her love for dancing. She found immense joy in supporting her sons' and grandchildren's sports activities, always present on the sidelines with pride shining in her eyes. Louise will be remembered not only for her talents and accomplishments but also for the love she gave so freely to everyone around her. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
