William Brasel Obituary

William "Bill" R. Brasel, age 69, of Leeton, Missouri, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, at St. Luke's on the Plaza in Kansas City, Missouri, surrounded by his beloved family and friends. Born on October 13, 1956, in Springfield, Illinois, Bill lived a life defined by unwavering service, deep love for his family, and a genuine dedication to his community.

Bill's greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Patricia, who stood by his side through all of life's adventures. He was a loving father to Mike Epperson (Tamie) of Knob Noster, Missouri, Steve Epperson (Jeri) of Carrollton, Missouri, Will Brasel of Leeton, Missouri, and Cindy Parsons (Jon) of Hermann, Missouri. Bill cherished his role as grandfather to Aspen Sawdon (Jeremiah) of Kansas City, Missouri, Lane Epperson (fiancée Payton) of Knob Noster, Missouri, and Westin Epperson of Carrollton, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Dan Brasel and Sarah Roger Avery; his brother, James "Dude" Brasel; his sisters, Lynn Brasel Bless and Catherine Jean Landes; and his beloved grandson, Clay Epperson.

Bill dedicated more than three decades of his life to protecting and serving the people of Johnson County. Appointed as a deputy sheriff in 1983, he served the Johnson County Sheriff's Office with distinction for 32 years. His commitment to justice and his community was evident in every role he held, culminating in his appointment as Sheriff in 2014. Even in retirement, Bill couldn't stay away from service-he returned to his hometown of Leeton to serve as Police Chief and School Resource Officer, continuing to make a positive impact on the lives of young people and residents alike.

Beyond his badge, Bill was a man who found peace and joy in the simple pleasures of life. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish, finding solace in nature and creating countless memories with family and friends.

Bill's legacy is one of integrity, compassion, and selfless service. He touched numerous lives through his work in law enforcement, but more importantly, through his kindness, his steadfast character, and his generous heart. His community has lost a true guardian, his family has lost their cornerstone, and all who knew him have lost a friend.

Honorary pallbearers include Mike Epperson, Steve Epperson, Mike Freeman, Kenny Hood, Robby Myers, PeeWee McCannon, and Donny Smithers.

Visitation will be January 30, 2026, from 6pm to 8pm at Holdren Funeral Home located at 617 N Maguire St, Warrensburg, MO 64093. The funeral will be held January 31, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, located at 607 N Maguire St, Warrensburg, MO 64093.

A sheriff's/fire procession back to Leeton, Missouri will immediately follow the service.

Though he is gone, Bill's spirit lives on in the lives he protected, the people he mentored, and the family he loved so dearly. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered. Donations may be made to honor Bill.

Bill worked in the Courthouse frequently while I practiced law. He was always a smiling face, a genuinely happy man that I liked and admired.
