Blacksburg -- Larry Ray Broome Sr, 84, of 436 W Carolina St, passed away on Friday, May 2nd, 2025, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home.
Born in Blacksburg, he was the widower of Sonia Maureen Parker Broome and the son of the late Sapp Harrelson Broome and Edith Davis Broome. Ray had a lifetime of public service. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, a lifetime member of the Blacksburg Volunteer Fire Department, as well as a former policeman and medic.
Surviving Mr. Broome are a son, Larry Ray Broome Jr.; a daughter, Lisa Dionne Broome; three sisters: Lola Cockman, Shirley Hance, and Charlene Harwick; three grandchildren: John Turner (Nikki), Justin Coleman, and Tyler Coleman (Makayla); three great-grandchildren; and some special friends: Derrick "Booper" Wilson, Mitch Clark, Ruth Yarborough, Tami Casselman, and Sheila Gunn.
In addition to his wife, whom he loved very much, and his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Harrelson Broome.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 8th, 2025, from 6:00 - 7:30pm at Gordon Mortuary. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 9th, 2025, at 11:00am in the Gordon Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Everett Vaughan officiating. Interment will follow in Clingman Memorial Gardens. Derrick "Booper" Wilson, Dalton Wilson, Dennis Hampton, David Hampton, Jon Hampton, Rick Pennington, and Nathan Lipari will serve as pallbearers.
