Larry J. Broussard, born on Friday, December 8, 1939, in Eunice, Louisiana, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2024, in Lafayette, Louisiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 2:00 PM at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Mamou. Rite of committal will follow in the New St. Ann Cemetery with Father Billy Massie officiating services.
Larry Joseph Broussard leaves behind a legacy of dedication to education and community service, exemplified through his long and esteemed career as an educator and former Superintendent of the Evangeline Parish Schools. Larry was a pillar of strength and support within the educational community.
His commitment to public service extended beyond education. Larry served as a City Council Member in Mamou, where he worked tirelessly for the betterment of his community. He also played a pivotal role in helping to establish the baseball league in Mamou, showcasing his passion for youth engagement and local sports. A man of strong faith, Larry often drew upon his beliefs to guide his decisions and community involvement.
Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, and cheering on the LSU Tigers and the New Orleans Saints. He loved entertaining everyone with his joke telling, which was sure to put a smile on your face. Larry’s greatest passion was that of being there for his family. He made attending the many activities of his grandchildren and great grandchildren a top priority, and he treasured the time making memories to last a lifetime.
Larry's contributions to both education and his local community will be remembered fondly by those who knew him including his wife of 67 years, Beverly Broussard; son, Mitch Broussard (Lisa); and daughters, Monica Ramsey (John) and Lori Ardoin (Craig). Also left behind to cherish his memory are his four grandchildren, Danny Rider, Ashley Broussard, Maggie Ramsey, Macy Montelaro; eight great grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.
Larry now rests with his parents, Euel and Georganna Fontenot Broussard and grandson, Sammy Rider.
Visitation for Larry J. Broussard will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, from 2:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Ardoin's Funeral Home in Mamou with a rosary being recited at 6:00 PM. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, from 9:00 AM until time of service.
Larry J. Broussard's presence will be deeply missed, but his impactful legacy will continue to resonate within the community he cherished.
