Larry Campbell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Scott Funeral Home - Alvin on Feb. 4, 2026.
Lawrence "Larry" Edward Campbell Jr., age 77, of League City, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at his home.

Larry was born on November 26, 1948, in Magnolia, Mississippi, and grew up in McComb, Mississippi, less than 15 miles from the Louisiana state line. From an early age, he developed a deep appreciation for Cajun food and the joie de vivre, or joy of life.

Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army, completing two tours in Vietnam. Following his military service, he spent his working career in the oil industry in various capacities. His career eventually relocated his family to League City, Texas, where he had been a resident since 1985.

Larry was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His ability to create laughter was unforgettable. If Larry loved you, you knew it, and you likely had a nickname he had carefully crafted just for you. His larger-than-life personality and generous heart leave a void that cannot be filled. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Buck and Margarita Campbell Sr., and his brother, Dennis Campbell.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Margaret Campbell; daughter, Lauren Pilkington and husband Ross; grandchildren, R.J. Pilkington, Matthew Pilkington, Madison Pilkington, and Maciena Hannegan; sister, Cindy Ponder and husband Norman; brother, Randy Campbell and wife Nancy; nephews, Bryan Ponder, Dennis Campbell Jr., and Clint Campbell; niece, Miranda Boyd; and beloved friends whom he considered family, Steve and Vicki Crown, Alexander Crown, Vanessa Blanford and Christopher McClawchlin, along with numerous others.

A Celebration of Life in Larry's honor will be held at a later date.
