Larry Darnell Collins

Larry Darnell Collins was called to rest on October 20, 2025, at the Virginia Beach Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was born on April 4, 1950, to the late Sanford and Helen Collins, who instilled in him the values of education and hard work.

Hoddie, as he was affectionately known, was a proud graduate of Northampton County Public Schools and furthered his education at Norfolk State University. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to various roles, most notably at Camellia Foods and Mitsubishi Chemical. He was known for his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence.

Larry's passion for sports was evident from a young age. He was well known as an exceptionally gifted athlete. He excelled in baseball, basketball, and tennis. His love for sports extended to his weekends, where he could often be found cheering on his beloved Washington Commanders from the comfort of his living room.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Sanford and Helen Collins, as well as his brothers Anthony, Hilton, and Sanford Collins, Jr., and sisters Mary Collins and Mattie Morris. He leaves behind to cherish his memories two daughters, Chalarra Sessoms (Diallo) of Salisbury, MD, and T'Neisha Ames of Norfolk, VA. He is also survived by his brothers Jennis Collins (Cynthia) of Newport News, VA, and Lafayette Collins (Joyce) of Cheriton, VA, and his sister Barbara Harmon (Arthur) of Eastville, VA.

Larry shared his life with a special friend, Patricia Nichols of Norfolk, VA, along with her daughters Nicole and Ashby and their children. He will be deeply missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
