Larry Holmes Cooke

Greenville, South Carolina - Larry Holmes Cooke, 84, husband of Rose Copeland Cooke, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2024.

Born in Greenville, SC, he was the only child of the late Edward Holmes and Rebbie Neal Cooke.

Larry graduated from Greenville High School and went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He then graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law. He was an attorney at Cooke Law Firm in Greenville, where he served his community for 50 years. He was a former member of both the Greenville County Bar and the South Carolina Bar.

Larry was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. He was a former member and former board member of the Greenville Country Club and was an avid golfer, having won many tournaments. He also enjoyed hunting and belonged to numerous hunting clubs over the years. Larry was such a friendly, bigger than life presence and had many friends whom he cherished. He will be missed by all whose lives he touched.

His legacy of love will be forever cherished in the hearts of his wife of 30 years, Rose; two loving children, Elizabeth Cooke Corley and husband, Tommy, and Edward Holmes Cooke, all of Greenville; step-children, Jim Heath (Stephanie) of Sumter, Harvin Heath Greene (Tommy) of Atlanta, and Lucy Heath Lee (Todd) of Mt. Pleasant; eight adoring grandchildren, Alexandra Cooke Mandell (Stephen) of Illinois, and Evalyn Neal Cooke of Charlotte, Mary Copeland Heath Jones (Chris) of Atlanta, Taylor Heath (Jenna) of Columbia, Heath Greene of Columbia, Lula Greene of Atlanta, Reynolds Lee of Mt. Pleasant, Laura Harvin Lee of Mt. Pleasant; and two precious great-grandchildren, Rosemary Grey Mandell and Walker Cooke Mandell of Illinois.

In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his children, Eva Webb Cooke.

A memorial service to celebrate Larry's life will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, at 2:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church.
