Larry Counce Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Covington Funeral Home on Dec. 6, 2025.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Kendall Counce, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who departed this life at home on December 4, 2025, in Brighton, Tennessee. He was born on March 9, 1950, in Corinth, Mississippi, to Dale Frances Counce and Hurley Kendall Counce, who preceded him in death alongside his beloved sisters, Turdi McClain and Diane Davis.
Larry's journey through life was one marked by profound achievements, boundless love, and a spirited sense of humor that endeared him to everyone he met. A proud graduate of Southside High School and Oakland University, he earned a degree in Biochemistry that launched him into a career as a laboratory technician at UT Medical, where he dedicated thirty years of his life to the service of others.
However, Larry's passions extended far beyond the laboratory. For over twenty years, he also embraced his role as a Falcon Bellmaster, a pursuit that allowed him to merge artistry with craftsmanship. Larry was a self-taught master of falconry and bell-making, creating stunning handcrafted bells that were sought after worldwide, even by renowned English songwriter Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin fame. Larry's artistic talents didn't stop there; he also successfully ran a business crafting handcrafted bamboo fly-fishing rods. His creations were not just objects but a testament to his innovative spirit-there was seemingly nothing he couldn't make.
Larry was a dedicated environmentalist who loved tending to his chickens and nurturing the world around him. He lived a rich, interesting life filled with hobbies and interests that reflected his love for nature and creativity. He had a wonderful sense of humor and lifted the spirits of those fortunate enough to know him.
Larry is survived by his cherished wife, Mary Counce, and their three adoring children: daughters Melissa Simrell [Michael] and Sarah Counce [Tommy], and son Paul Counce [Katie]. He was a proud grandfather to four grandchildren: Brianna Cicchetto, Lucas Counce, Wynn Maceri, and Oliver Simrell, and a proud great-grandfather to his great-grandson, Calix Bannow.
A celebration of Larry's remarkable life will be held on January 3, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at 491 Hinton Rd, Counce, TN 38326. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor a man whose legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Larry's memory to the Horse Creek Wildlife Sanctuary, located at 13780 Highway 69, Savannah, TN 38372.
Larry Kendall Counce will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His spirit, creativity, and love for his family will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. May he rest in peace. He will be missed greatly. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Larry Kendall Counce, please visit our floral store.
