Larry A. Cummings
June 18, 1941-June 10, 2024
Larry A. Cummings, 82, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed away Monday June 10, 2024 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN.
On June 10, 2024, the world lost a remarkable individual with the passing of Larry Cummings, a man whose life was filled with diverse experiences and unwavering kindness. Larry's journey began on June 18, 1941, in his hometown of Pontiac, MI, where he was welcomed into the loving arms of his parents, Frank and Florence (Bowen) Cummings.
Throughout his life, Larry wore many hats and pursued a variety of career paths. From being a self-employed owner of All Brands Garage Doors to serving as a dedicated employee at Sauer's GMC of La Porte, Larry's work ethic and passion shone through. He also ventured into entrepreneurship by owning a tree trimming and stump removal business. Notably, Larry was the proud owner of the Polaris Snowmobile shop in La Porte during its heyday.
Aside from his professional endeavors, Larry found as he excelled as a Motorcross Champion in the Pontiac Silverdome. His love for motorcycles extended beyond competitions as he relished riding them alongside snowmobiling adventures. An avid traveler, Larry cherished RV'ing escapades, especially when visiting the sand dunes of Michigan. Additionally, his spirit soared high in the skies as a private pilot who found solace in flying his own private aircraft and ultralight. Larry also spent his winters in the Fort Myers area.
Larry will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for his generous nature. Described as a man who would do anything for anyone, he touched countless lives with his acts of kindness and compassion.
Tragically, Larry's extraordinary journey met an untimely end due to a motorcycle accident (through no fault of his own). As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of resilience, passion, and selflessness.
Larry is survived by his loving family: sons Chris (Tracey) Cummings and Jerry (Jessica) Cummings; grandchildren Grant (Hillary) Cummings, Ryan (Nicole) Cummings, Arielle (Tony) Neispodziany, Brandon (Kayleigh Willett) Cummings, and Derrick Cummings; and great-grandchildren Ayden, Easton, Everett, and Joseph as well his beloved partner Cheryl Skidmore whose lives of adventure ended together.
A Memorial Gathering followed by a Celebration of Life will be held on June 15, 2024, at Haverstock Funeral Home Inc., located at 602 Maple Ave in La Porte. The Memorial Gathering will begin at 10:00 AM followed by the Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM to honor Larry's remarkable life.
In Larry Cummings' departure from this world, we bid farewell to not just a man but an embodiment of resilience and goodwill whose memory will forever remain etched in our hearts.
