Larry Keith Denson, 83, of Ira, TX, joined his beloved wife, Barbra Denson, in Heaven on March 14, 2025. A celebration of life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Bell-Cypert-Seale Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Larry was born on October 13, 1941, in Achille, OK, to Hazel and Henry “Grady” Denson. He graduated from Hermleigh High School in 1960, where he excelled as a football and track star. His career in highway construction began while still in high school, driving stakes and shooting grade for road projects.
On June 13, 1963, Larry married Barbra Redden, and they began building their family in 1966. He continued his construction career as a supervisor, notably overseeing the conversion of I-10 from a two-lane to a four-lane highway between Segovia and Ozona, TX, with Alan Brothers Construction.
Following that milestone, Larry pursued his lifelong dream of farming and ranching. Between 1974 and 1976, he returned to dirt construction with Grimmett Brothers, later working with Price Brothers Construction and eventually the Scurry County Precinct Road Department, where he retired. In retirement, he began his third career—raising rodeo bucking bulls and trading cattle, a passion he pursued until his health no longer allowed him to travel. When Larry wasn’t busy hauling cattle he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandkids.
Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Barbra Denson; his parents, Hazel and Grady Denson; his brother, Dewey Denson; and his sister, Peggy Grinslade.
He is survived by his two sons, Danny Denson (Kim Minor) and Steven Denson; and his daughter, Carla (Justin) Derryberry, all of Ira, TX. He leaves behind his cherished grandchildren: Kaleb (Carson) Derryberry of Snyder, TX; Tyler (Haley) Dudley of Greenbrier, AR; Bryleigh (Wyatt) Monahan of Edgewood, NM; Demrie (George) Wright of Slaton, TX; and Ashlyn Derryberry of Ira, TX. He was also blessed with great-grandsons Ryker and Rhett Derryberry of Snyder, TX; Trevor and Baylor Monahan of Edgewood, NM; Ryker Vaughn and Cohen Dudley of Greenbrier, AR; and one great-granddaughter, Mykah Vaughn of Greenbrier, AR. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
