Larry Downs Obituary
Born in Louisville, Kentucky, Larry was the son of the late William Russell and Mary Frances Downs. A quiet and steady presence, Larry was known by those who loved him for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family. He lived a life of humble strength, content with the simple joys of watching classic films and recalling memories from the open road, where he spent many years as a dedicated truck driver before retiring.
Above all, Larry found his greatest joy in the love of his children and grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Virginia Downs; his daughter, Catherine "Cathy" Downs; and his brother, Roger "Rock" Downs.
Larry's legacy lives on in those who survive him: his children, David Downs (Paula), Christopher Downs, and Jennifer Downs; his cherished grandchildren, Eric Butler (Bianca), Kelly Butler, Abigayle Hussain (Raheel), and Summer Denney; and his great-grandchildren, Maverick Butler, Ezra Butler, Kynlee Falconberry, and Hendrix Denney. He is also survived by his brothers, Dr. Darrell "Slats" Downs (Dr. Fran), Russell Downs (Phyllis), and Joseph Downs (Lora); sister-in-law, Annetta Downs; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family who held him dear.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Legacy Funeral Center, 921 Main Street, Jeffersonville. A funeral service celebrating Larry's life will begin at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. In accordance with his wishes, the family will honor him with cremation in the days to follow.
