Larry Drummer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Heritage Funeral & Cremation Service on May 8, 2024.
"Tis a fearful thing to love that which death can touch"- Henry David Thoureau
It is with great sadness the family announces that on May 4th, Larry Wayne Drummer, passed away at the age of 66. Larry was born on November 28, 1958 in Millen, Georgia to the late Shedrick Johnson and Marietta Drummer. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lisa Anderson-Drummer; son, Larry Jr.; son, Lance; daughter, Nikki and siblings Grace Drummer, Franklin (Ann) Drummer, Jackie Underwood-Drummer, Gail (Marion) Attaway; Faye Drummer (deceased), Terry Drummer (deceased), aunt Sue Moore; cousin Marsha Drummer along with grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.
Larry was a brilliant man! He had a strong commanding presence. He was a natural born leader and advocate for civil rights. He held men like Thurgood Marshall and Martin Luther King in high esteem. He was known as "No Drama Drummer", don't start none, won't be none!
Larry attended Morris Brown College and graduated with a degree in political science. He graduated from Georgia Tech (ROTC) program and received a degree in military science and communications. Thereafter, he entered the military (Army) and quickly rose to rank of Captain and General's Aide in charge of a large battalion of over 50,000 men at the tender age 25. He went on to receive his Masters in Education Leadership (M. Ed) at Albany State University.
Larry touched hundreds of young lives over his 30 year career as an Educator in the Dougherty County and Ohio school systems. He also tutored children in math. There were news articles written highlighting his teaching talents and abilities. He was an accomplished orator, teacher, avid reader and lover of (bibliophile) books. His favorite quote was " A Book is your best friend" and "First you must learn to read and then read to learn".
In 1985, Larry traded in his implements of war for those of peace and was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. He served over a decade as a loving, spiritual shepherd (elder) in the congregation with many privileges and responsibilities. He reached the hearts of many by means of his dynamic discourses (talks) in the congregation, assembly and convention programs. He especially loved engaging in the ministry boldly preaching and teaching others about our loving Creator, Jehovah God. (Psalms 83:18) Larry met and married Lisa in 2012. He was a loving, devoted and faithful spiritual husband. Larry loved Jehovah and remained faithful to the end.
Larry was not afraid of death and understood death was likened to being in a deep sleep, from which he could be awakened. He had strong faith in Jehovah's promised resurrection hope. (Acts 24:15) Soon Jesus will call and the dead, all in Jehovah's memory, will awaken from death. One of his favorite Bible books was Psalm Chapter 35. Rest in peace my love, you have ran the race to the finish, Jehovah has defended and rested your case. See you in Paradise!
