Larry Earl Edwards, 79, passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at Holiday Resort in Emporia.

He was born April 12, 1945 in Emporia, Kansas the son of Lawrence “Buck” and Wanda Love Edwards. Larry attended Hartford High School and graduated with the Class of 1963.

Larry was joined in marriage to Margaret “Maggie Pankaskie on August 14, 1965 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hartford. They moved to Craig, Colorado where he worked in construction. In 1966 they moved back to Hartford where he joined his family working on their Dairy and farm.

Larry entered the United States Army on August 8, 1966. he proudly served his country until being honorably discharged at which time he returned home to rejoin his family on their Dairy and farming operation. The Dairy operation was eventually disbanded at which time Larry took over the day to day operations of the farm with his brothers. He was well known for his willingness to prank and have fun with those brave enough to work on his hay crews each year. He always had time to share a story or two as long as the work got done.

In 1984 Larry embarked on a new career as a truck driver. He began driving for Dolly Madison and eventually as an owner/operator before his retirement. Larry held a strong sense of community and gave back by serving on the USD 252 School Board for several years. He kept in touch with many of the friends he made during his time in the Army. He enjoyed annual hunting trips with his Army Buddies. It has been rumored that they may have even bagged a bird or two over the years however proof was always hard to come by.

Larry’s fun loving spirit will always remain dear to those closest him including his daughters, Carmen (Michael) Mackey, Chrysanne (Jerry) Grund and Kimberly Edwards (Pete Caviness); eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Peg Downard and a brother Eugene Edwards. Larry was preceded in death by is Beloved “Maggie” on September 27, 2010 after 45 years together. He was also preceded in death by his parents; a step father, Merton Talkington; a brother, Robert “Bob” Edwards and a step grandson, Zachary Mackey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 16, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hartford. Burial will follow services at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery where he will be placed by his wife Maggie. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M. Friday evening at the church. The family will greet friend following the Rosary. Memorial contributions may be made to the USD 252 Honor Flight in Larry’s Memory. Condolences may be expressed at vanarsdalefs.com.
