Lawrence Lee Fitzgerald Sr.
Lawrence Lee "Fitz" Fitzgerald Sr, age 84 passed away peacefully in Colville, WA February 13, 12024. Fitz was born on September 6, 1939 in Lemmon, South Dakota to Martin and Gladys (Fedler) Fitzgerald.
Fitz's family would relocate early on in his childhood, moving to Chewelah, Washington in 1948, where he attended St Mary's Catholic School. Fitz worked at his uncles dealership Fitzgerald Motors in Chewelah. He married Linda Lucas after graduation and was blessed with children Marie and Larry Jr. He transitioned to working at Carter Toyota in Colville, eventually moving his family to Colville. The marriage lasted 24 years.
Fitz would meet Barbara Hill shortly after she relocated to Chewelah to care for her father, and after much persistence, she would agree to take his hand in marriage on April 14, 1984 in Addy Washington. Two years later, the couple would go into business together, starting Fitz's Auto in Colville in 1986. With Fitz's mechanical skills and expertise, and Barbara's fine-tuned secretarial skills, the two would spend 13 years in business before their retirement in 1999. During their time in the auto shop, most in the area knew Fitz for his honesty and integrity. He was always sure to charge you fairly, and he would rather fix up what you had than try to sell you something new.
Following retirement, the pair had even more time to spend together, traveling to countless lakes and rivers for quiet fishing trips, and they would even build a 55 x 65 shop on their property. The pair were avid snowmobilers, with Larry restoring numerous classic and vintage snowmobiles over the years. He had a certain skill when it came to fixing up a motor or engine to run at top speed, and even if it didn't last as long, he was sure to have the best chainsaw, the fastest snowmobiles, and the most revved up motorbike. Fitz was proceeded in death by his parents, Martin and Gladys Fitzgerald, sisters Kathleen, Karen and brother Richard; as well as his wife of 37 yrs, Barbara Fitzgerald.
He is survived by his children Larry (Erika) Fitzgerald Jr., Marie (Mark) Holst, his stepchildren, Dena (Kyle) Weaver, Lory Ferrell, Rickey (Tracy) Ferrell; 15 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and a host of extended family
