Larry Elbert Greathouse, age 78, of Akron, passed away on October 18, 2024 in the comfort of his home with his loving family by his side, leaving a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. He was born in Akron, Ohio on October 11, 1946 to the late George and Doil Greathouse. Larry met then married his highschool sweetheart, Pauline Sasinowski and they were blessed with 3 children. He was a plant manager at Atlantic Foundry for 25 years before starting his own business. He was proud to work alongside his son Randy and grandson Randy Jr. in the Greathouse Heating and Cooling Company. Larry was respected and known for his integrity throughout the community and his life. He enjoyed the outdoors with his family and friends, hunting, fishing and spending time at his special house in southern Ohio. A man of remarkable warmth and compassion, Larry touched the lives of those around him with his nature and his unwavering support. He was not merely a friend; he was a devoted confidant and a steadfast presence in the lives of many. Throughout his life, he formed strong relationships and offered a helping hand, no matter the circumstances.
His loving family includes his wife of 59 years Pauline; children the late Randy Greathouse, Cynthia (Robert) Donel, Eva (David) Haverstick; grandchildren the late Randy Greathouse Jr., Shaun (Shauna) Greathouse, Mary (Paul) Knight, Nicholas (Courtney) Donel, Garrett Haverstick, Kevin Haverstick, David Haverstick Jr.; great-grandchildren Lainey Greathouse, Cameron Royer, Weston Royer and Oliver Donel; siblings the late Judy (Alex) Kura, Shirley (Don) Testa, Eula (Chet) Harlin, Loretta (the late Duke) Goodrich, Dale (Cheryl) Greathouse, Tim Greathouse, the late baby Cynthia Greathouse; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Larry lived for the moments that made life beautiful-the simple joys of a shared meal, the warmth of laughter among friends, and the quiet yet powerful serenity of nature. While we mourn his passing, we take solace in the memory of his vibrant spirit and the love he shared so freely. Larry E. Greathouse, you will be profoundly missed, but you will always remain in our hearts as a guiding light, illuminating our paths with memories we will forever treasure.
Visitation will be Saturday, October 26th from 8:30 AM- 10 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home. Funeral services begin at 10 AM. Final resting place is Northlawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry's name to One of a Kind Pet Rescue.
