Larry Jack Gregory was born June 21, 1963 in Amarillo, Texas, to Jackie (Horner) Gregory and Larry Don Gregory. He lived his entire life in Amarillo, where he made many friends, “adopting” them as family. He graduated from Palo Duro High School. Christian Heritage Church became his home church for many years until his death. He’d been a biker for many years and became a member of the prison ministry for about 4 years. He continued almost daily contact with Gary Burd until his death.
Larry Jack was the epitome of a real “gearhead” thanks to lifelong friend Casey Wall and Casey’s dad. Larry would fix anything. He would “just figure it out”. Larry Jack was a big truck driver for over 32 years before retiring. He logged over 3 million miles in his career with no accidents and no tickets. Larry Jack raced a car he’d built from the ground up. He won awards in 2014 and 2015 at the Amarillo Speedway. Larry Jack survived a catastrophic motorcycle accident in November, 2019. He survived only by the grace of God and His blessing.
Larry Jack’s uncle Jim and he had an incredibly close relationship. Jim was his friend, advisor, confidant and surrogate dad. Larry Jack was married to Tina Gregory for 18 years before they parted ways. They remained in close contact until his death.
Larry Jack had a heart of gold. He loved to help people. He was a very outspoken man, but highly respected. He was a generous man to a fault. When he felt he’d harmed or wronged a person, he owned it and tried to make amends. He was a warm-hearted and honest man who loved God, cars, guns, animals and kids. He never felt he deserved praise and was humble to the end. His mother, Jackie and a very devoted high school friend (and others) assisted him in his last days.
Larry Jack was preceded in death by all grandparents, his father Larry Don and his only biological son James Ray.
He is survived by his mother, Jackie Gregory, brother Justin Gregory, sister Paula Wolf, uncle Dr. Jim Horner, and Larry Prater, nieces Zoe Gregory and Naomi Battie, nephews Shelby Bailey and Joel Battie, “adopted” son Michael (Mikey), along with three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Larry Jack will be sorely missed.
