Larry Wayne Groves, 73, of La Porte, IN, passed away on July 31, 2024 at his home, where he was surrounded by loved ones.
Larry was born on January 13, 1951 in South Bend, IN, to John L. and June K (Calhoon) Groves.
On April 2, 1972 in Walkerton, IN, he married Darlene P. Weller, who survives. Also surviving are his beloved children, Melissa (Cliff) Gilchrist of La Porte and Jason (Susan) Groves of Ft. Wayne; grandson, Cameron Groves of Ft. Wayne; sister, Deborah L. Groves of Port Charlotte, FL; brothers, Bill Groves of North Liberty and Paul Groves of OH; sister-in-law, Collette (Bill) Braden of Valparaiso; brother-in-law, Charlie Harris of Elkhart; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; as well as his beloved dogs, Brody and Maverick.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mark A. Groves.
Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard. He was honorably discharged in 1977.
He was a metallurgist in the steel industry. Larry enjoyed playing poker and watching his grandson play hockey. He loved going to breakfast at Louie's Cafe, where he made many friends.
Larry will be very fondly remembered for his sense of humor and his love for teasing others. He was very competitive in all areas of his life.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Tim Davis officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton.
A time of visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to the Jane Bernard Animal Adoption Center, 2855 West State Road 2, La Porte, IN 46350.
