Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home - CelinaIt is with unbridled misery and much torment that we must announce the passing of Larry Reid Hawk, 84, of Celina. We relinquished him to the Lord 3/26/26, but by God he put up a fight.
Larry was born 6/23/1941 to Armetha and Reid Hawk at the Van Wert Hospital. The first place he ever saw was reportedly on Hawk Road in Mercer County. He had a childhood full of mischief including: rough housing with the family dogs, getting drunk and riding his tricycle home (to his mother's dismay), and having shoot outs with his sister and their Daisy Red Ryder BB guns. He attended school in Rockford, Ohio and after graduation he spent many years working at The Daily Standard in Celina.
Let's just face it. He was a certified bad ass. As he grew older he loved rock & roll (stealing many of Julie's tapes), racing/repairing cars, riding motorcycles, shooting guns (and disseminating the education), and farming. We should all be so lucky to follow in his footsteps. He will be remembered for his quick wit, colorful language, overall work ethic, and his commitment to those he loved. He was a friend to many, but a foe to the groundhog.
He was preceded in death by his parents Reid and Armetha Hawk, his father and mother-in-law Lowell and Alberta Figley, his sister-in-law Gloria (Paul) Miller, brother-in-laws Jim Blount, and Dennis (Paulette) Figley, and niece Lora Lamm.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Diana (Figley) Hawk, who relentlessly cared for him to the very end. His sister Beverly (Hawk) Blount, his daughter Julie (Hawk) Dicus/Mike Dicus, his son Wade Hawk/Jenny Hawk, and his nieces Angie Blount, Tina Maharg, Shelly Dillion, and Kim Figley as well as his nephews Rick Miller, Michael Miller, Dennis Figley Jr., Dan Figley, and David Figley. He leaves behind his grandchildren: Kiel (Erin) Hawk, Taylor Dicus, Megan Hawk, and Paige Dicus; as well as his Great Grandchildren: Noah, Ezra, and Roman Hawk and his cats: Oats, Finn, and Cooper.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Larry will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026 at the Aletheia Christian Church in Celina, with Rev. Michael Spencer, Phil Bange and Shawn Meyer officiating. A Celebration of Life and meal will follow services at the Church. A Memorial Gathering will be held for family and friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. on Friday, before services. Larry's arrangements are in the care of the Lehman-Dzendzel Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Aletheia Christian Church or WTGN Radio 97.7. Condolences may be shared with the Hawk family on-line at LehmanDzendzelFH.com.
