Mr. Larry Don Holland, age 85, of Hiram, Georgia passed away on Friday, May 23, 2025 at his residence.
He was born on November 9, 1939 in Atlanta, Georgia to Mr. Ivy Byron Holland and Mrs. Alma Ellen Van Dely Newman. He achieved a Master of Science in electrical engineering and spent the majority of his professional career as a member of the research faculty at his beloved Alma mater Georgia Tech. He was a lifelong member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and a Deacon Emeritus as well. Larry also organized and lead the monthly Gospel Jam music program at Poplar Springs Baptist church for approximately 30 years. Musicians and music lovers from across Georgia and several states made the trip to either play or listen, while eating a lot of home cooked food during their half time refueling. He was a musician and loved to play the fiddle. Call sign "WZ4N" communicated all over the world to fellow HAM radio enthusiasts but most frequently to his fellow blue grass friends and neighbors in western North Carolina. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife of 63 years, Brenda Smith Holland. Larry is survived by his wife, Nancy Holland; children, Greg Holland (Kim), Robin Ruda (Joel), Chris Holland (Stephanie); grandchildren, Holly Ruda, Kelly Ruda, Jacqueline Holland, Nicholas Holland, Madeline Holland, Amelia Holland, Christopher Holland, Zachary Holland, Justin Newberry (Rebecca), Amber Izzo (Nick); great granddaughter, Olivia Newberry; other extended family and friends.
Funeral Services for Mr. Larry Don Holland will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at 2 P.M. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. George Barnett officiating. Interment will follow at Paulding Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 from 11 A.M. – 1 P.M. at Benson Funeral Home.
